Independent Accountability Network
The World Bank’s Executive Board established the Inspection Panel in 1993 with an intention of creating a means by which people affected by Bank operations could directly express their concerns and have them addressed. In the years since then other international financial institutions have established similar mechanisms, referred to as Independent Accountability Mechanisms, or IAMs. While IAMs differ in nature and structure, collectively they share a common mission to independently assess people’s complaints and seek a response to their concerns.
