The Panel received a Request for Inspection sent by two people from Serbia on January 6, 2017. The Request for Inspection is related to the World Bank-financed Floods Emergency Recovery Project (P152018). The Requesters claim that they were suffering harm as a result of the World Bank’s failures or omissions in applying its policies during the planning and implementation of the project. The harm alleged includes the taking of land for project use without adequate compensation and a lack of meaningful consultation.
The Panel is not registering the Request because one of the Requesters informed the Panel in mid-May that he had accepted an in-court settlement with the municipality of Novi Pazar initiated after the complaint to the Panel and had received the agreed compensation amount. Since one of the two Requesters no longer wants to pursue the case, the Request lacks the two signatures required under the Panel’s procedures.
The decision to not register the Request does not preclude the possibility of a future complaint to the Panel based on new evidence or circumstances.
