Event Announcement: Center for Global Development hosts a Panel Discussion on the First 30 Years of the Inspection Panel

The Center for Global Development (CGD) will host a panel discussion  "The World Bank Inspection Panel at 30 Years: Reflections on the First MDB Accountability Mechanism" on October 31, 2023.

The session will take place 10:00-11:00 AM at CGD's office at 2055 L Street, 5th Floor, NW, Washington, DC. The event will be hybrid, providing the option to attend in person or to watch it live streamed on the CGD website. Refreshments will be provided at the venue.

During the panel discussion, experts will reflect on the Inspection Panel’s impact over the last three decades, drawing upon the experience and learnings of inspection cases. The Inspection Panel will also share the lessons  from its latest Advisory Report on Livelihoods as a consequence of involuntary economic or physical resettlement or project impact. Drawing from Inspection Panel requests over the past five years, the panel will examine both direct and indirect impacts of resettlement and project impact on livelihoods.

Among the questions to be explored at this event are: How has the Panel influenced redress for communities, World Bank institutional learning and policies, and changes in capacity and measures among borrower governments? How can the Panel inform improved handling of risks to livelihoods in future World Bank operations? Will the Panel still be fit for purpose considering the anticipated expansion of the World Bank’s role under the Evolution Roadmap?

Please register for the event at this link.  If you have questions for the panelists, please submit them to events@cgdev.org, or tweet @CGDev or #CGDTalks.

We look forward to your participation.
