Panel Welcomes Truman Scholar Kaylyn Ahn as Summer Intern

The Inspection Panel is pleased to welcome Truman Scholar Kaylyn Ahn as its newest summer intern. Kaylyn, an incoming Master of Public Policy student at the University of Oxford and graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Social Policy and Legal Studies, brings a wealth of experience and accolades, including being named a Marshall Scholar, Truman Scholar and a GLAAD 20 Under 20 honoree.
Kaylyn's professional background is both diverse and impactful. She was instrumental in closing a legal loophole in sexual assault law, leading to significant legislative reforms in Illinois. Her efforts contributed to mandatory statewide police training and the prosecution of thousands of sexual assault cases. Kaylyn interned at the US Department of State in South Africa, where she managed foreign assistance funds and drafted diplomatic cables on critical issues such as climate change. At the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, she compiled data for a presidential report on federal agency progress. In Washington, DC, Kaylyn worked with the US Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights, authoring a policy paper on sexual violence in Afghanistan and assisting in the relocation of Afghan refugees.
Her leadership extends to serving on the Board of Directors for the National Organization for Victim Advocacy, where she oversees significant funding and advises on a Department of Justice grant. She is also a member of the Illinois Council on Women and Girls, focusing on financial protections for domestic violence victims. Kaylyn's career is marked by a strong commitment to advocacy and policy development, particularly for marginalized communities.
Throughout her internship, which runs through July 2025, Kaylyn will collaborate closely with the Panel team on ongoing Inspection Panel case work, advisories, and assist in research and publications of the Panel’s work. Her dedication to social justice and her impressive academic and leadership achievements, makes her an outstanding addition to the Inspection Panel team. Please join us in welcoming Kaylyn to the team.
