Panel, Other IAMs Discuss Their Operations with Washington Area Members of the International Association of Impact Assessment

The Inspection Panel on June 13, 2018, joined representatives from three other independent accountability mechanisms (IAMs) to explain the IAMs’ work to a meeting hosted by the Washington Area Branch of the International Association of Impact Assessment. Panel Executive Secretary Dilek Barlas and officials from the World Bank Group’s Compliance Advisor Ombudsman and the IAMs of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation discussed challenges facing the mechanisms, including emerging issues like gender-based violence, complaints involving new lending instruments, and retaliation against complainants. They also answered questions ranging from how they deal with complaints involving financial intermediaries or co-financed projects to what effect they have in changing the internal practices of their financial institutions.
