​Panel Hosting Side Event at the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues on April 26

The Inspection Panel on Wednesday, April 26, will make a presentation at the Sixteenth Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Panel Chairman Gonzalo Castro de la Mata and Operations Officer Tamara Milsztajn will introduce the work of the Panel with a focus onits cases involving indigenous issues. In particular, panelists will discussa 2005 case from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)that resulted in the recognition of Pygmies as indigenous peoples by the World Bank and the DRC government. Other speakers include Albert Barume, African representative to the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; Adrien Sinafasi Makelo, coordinator and spokesperson for Dignité Pygmée; and Luis Felipe Duchicela, the World Bank’s senior advisor for indigenous peoples. The Panel presentation is scheduled from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on April 26 in the Diplomat Ballroom of the One UN Hotel, located at One United Nations Plaza (44th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues). The Panel session is part of afull day of side events sponsored by the World Bank Group at the UN forum.
